Torrey DeVitto is probably one of the sweetest people in real life. She’s avid volunteer and she always look so happy and sweet. However, in the land of television, she’s a completely different person — as in a raving lunatic. For whatever reason, she constantly gets cast as crazy characters. From playing Nanny Carrie on One Tree Hill to gun-happy Meredith Fell on The Vampire Diaries and of course conniving Melissa Hastings on Pretty Little Liars, Torrey has officially claimed the throne of television’s most beautiful yet unstable madwoman!

So what’s next for her in terms of Pretty Little Liars — especially after the huge reveal that Melissa had visited Alison DiLaurentis the night she disappeared and that she had been sending her threatening text messages?! Check out what the amazing Torrey DeVitto told Jarrett over at The Insider!

Insider: Let’s start with Melissa — what are you excited for fans to see in these final episodes?
Torrey: She’s got a lot of exciting things coming up. Like I’ve always said, her relationship with Spencer is interesting on its own, but after they saw her on that videotape, things go in a direction that I think people will like. Things will keep unfolding and there are some more shocks coming with her. There’s so much there you haven’t seen. Plus, it’ll be interesting to see how Melissa and Spencer handle things that are coming up — we’ll find out if there is more to this sisterly rivalry than previously thought.

Insider: What was it like when they told you that Melissa would get involved in the Alison murder mystery?
Torrey: I don’t know anything until the script is literally in my hands. I ask all the time and no one tells me anything. So I was just as surprised when Melissa showed up in the video. But I love it. As an actor, it’s so much fun to play a character with some kind of mystery. You never want to play the boring person – and in real life, I’m not a murder suspect, so it’s fun to do something totally opposite. For Melissa’s sake, I just want to know what’s going on with her because there have been so many ups and downs since the show started.

Insider: That said, did learning of her NAT involvement make you look back on any acting choices you’d previously made with regret?
Torrey: I say that all the time. When I get scripts I’ll go up to Marlene [King, creator] and say, “I wish I knew…” But she’s very clear that they don’t tell us this stuff because they don’t want us to play it like that. We’re told what we need to know per scene and that makes sense. If I knew that Melissa would be on that videotape, I would have probably played into that. They’re very smart with how they hand information out.

Ahh! Imagine how creepy it’d be if it turned out that Melissa Hastings was a member of the sinister N.A.T. club!

The spring finale of Pretty Little Liars airs TONIGHT at 8/7c. Are you guys excited?! We know we are! We recently had the chance to chat with Torrey DeVitto, who plays Melissa, about the jaw-dropping episode you will see tonight. She’s just as excited as we are!

“The finale is going to change everything,” she reveals. “And it’s going to be really, really big for Melissa. There are two huge things that happen to her — one she’s unaware of and the other will leave you wondering where they’ll take her next season. It’s going to be interesting to see how she handles it all. I’m really excited for everyone to see it!”

And while we may not be able to spill what’s going to happen to Melissa, we CAN tell you that Torrey’s relationship with Troian Bellisario, who plays her sister on-screen sister Spencer, couldn’t be more different than Spencer and Melissa’s! “I LOVE Troian,” the actress raves. “I love working with her. I love talking to her. She’s just such a smart girl. We really hit it off and get along fantastically. She’s a really cool girl.”

Torrey is a pretty cool girl herself. And we’re sure ABC Family fans recognize her from the ABC Family Original Series Beautiful People, where she played Karen. “Beautiful People really started it all for me,” she shares. “I loved it so much. It was just an amazing experience. And I’m still friends with a lot of people from that show.”

As for Pretty Little Liars, Torrey is on cloud nine playing Melissa. “I love how much she’s grown over the first season,” she smiles. “She is a character who just wants the perfect life – but it’s interesting to see her own secrets coming out and seeing how that changes things for her. And it will be interesting to see will happen for Melissa next season.”

Torrey Devitto on Melissa

Talk about a bombshell.

In “Pretty Little Liars’” Feb. 28 episode, “Person of Interest,” we learned it wasn’t Alison (Sasha Pieterse) who was with Ian (Ryan Merriman) at Hilton Head right before her murder; It was Spencer’s (Troian Bellisario) big sister (and Ian’s wife) Melissa (Torrey DeVitto). There goes the girls’ entire theory.

But wait — there’s more. Melissa confesses to Spencer that she was pregnant at the time. The couple had escaped to Hilton Head to contemplate having an abortion, but she lost the baby before making the decision. Now we know why her current pregnancy is so important her. Even if it is with a possible murderer.

Zap2it caught up with Torrey DeVitto to find out her reaction to the shocking storyline. We also talked about Melissa’s relationship with Ian and Spencer and what we can expect in the finale, which seems like it could change her character forever. We also got her thoughts on the burgeoning Spencer and Toby (Keegan Allen) relationship.

Yes, “One Tree Hill” fans, we asked about crazy Nanny Carrie and found out how Torrey thinks she ranks with the show’s all-time crazies (and there’s a lot of ‘em). Plus, would she be down for a guest-starring gig on “The Vampire Diaries”?

Were you surprised by the pregnancy storyline and the reveal that it was Melissa at Hilton Head with Ian?

Yeah, I was. Melissa is a character who likes to have everything very together in a perfect light and perfect view. So to find out that she had gone through something like that, with the abortion and everything, was just very out of her character and a very interesting new thing to bring to her.

Do you think Melissa really loves Ian?

I think she does. I think Melissa has always had it in her head to have the perfect husband and the perfect family. When Ian came back, he had something to offer for her in that way. She kind of just latched onto it. I think she loves him for that, for providing for her what obviously the Wren situation didn’t provide.

So she loves him, but does she trust him?

I think that they’re trusting each other. About what? I’m not quite sure because there’s so many questions that I don’t even have answers to. I think they’re relying on and trusting each other right now to get through this whole mess that’s going on. But what she knows? I’m not even sure what she knows.
